The Japan Rail Pass allows unlimited travel on all JR Shinkansen lines, including Limited Express, Express, Rapid, and Local trains, plus some Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes. You can easily travel between major cities like Tokyo and Osaka and access famous Shinkansen lines such as Tokaido, Akita, Kyushu, and Hokkaido. Enjoy seamless travel across Japan’s high-speed rail network and local transportation options.
Airport Transfers
The JR Pass covers direct airport transfers, including the Narita Express (N’EX) from Narita Airport, the Tokyo Monorail from Haneda Airport, and the Haruka Limited Express from Kansai International Airport, ensuring convenient access to Japan’s cities.

What is the JR Green Pass and why choose it?

There are two main seating classes on the Shinkansen: Green Cars (First Class) and Ordinary Cars (Standard Class).
Green Cars provide a first-class experience with extra legroom, enhanced comfort, and a quieter, less crowded environment, making them ideal for travelers seeking luxury and relaxation.
The Green Pass grants access to Green Cars on all valid Shinkansen (except Nozomi and Mizuho) and select express lines. While not widely known among foreign travelers, the Green Pass offers excellent value with its added perks, including extra luggage space, additional legroom, and amenities like warm towels and complimentary drinks on some routes.
During peak seasons (May, August, and September), the Green Pass is a great choice, as Green Cars are less crowded and offer better chances of seat availability.

Seat Reservations with the JR Pass
Seat Reservations with the JR Pass

Once you have your JR Pass, you can reserve seats free of charge! There are two convenient ways to book your seats: by visiting a ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi) or using reserved seat ticket vending machines, both available at JR stations.
If you prefer the ticket office, simply show your JR Pass to the staff and let them know which train you plan to take. They will provide information on available seats and issue you a reserved seat ticket. Look for the green logo with a reclining figure to easily locate these ticket offices.
For vending machines, keep in mind that not all stations offer this option. Where available, you can scan the QR code on your JR Pass and follow the on-screen instructions to reserve your seat. These machines are also marked with the same recognizable green logo near the Midori-no-madoguchi offices.
By following these steps, securing your seat and enjoying a comfortable trip is both simple and stress-free!

When planning to purchase your Japan Rail Pass, it’s advisable to do so at least two weeks before your departure to Japan. This will ensure that you receive your Exchange Voucher in time, allowing you to start your journey smoothly without any disruptions.
The Exchange Voucher, which will be sent to you by mail or made available for collection when you complete your booking, is an essential document. You’ll need to present it upon arrival in Japan to obtain your actual JR Pass. Be sure to store it safely, as it is required to activate your pass at authorized JR locations across Japan.
